The first Service Saturday was a complete sucess. We had 6 girls show up- Shelbi, Molly, Allie, Hannah, Annie, and Hailey. They all worked their little hearts out all day long. A little bird told me we even had some of them that turned down going to a big birthday bash so that they could come and sew all day. I was SO very proud of All of them. They had fun making all sorts of different hats- each had a favorite, and they all did a great job matching trims to fabric. What makes it especially impressive is that most of these girls HAD NOT sewn before. We dubbed Haliey the headscarf queen- I think she made like 8 of them. Annie did a great job helping the girls who hadn't sewn before get things going, cut stuff out, choose fabrics appropriate to the patterns, etc. Allie fell in love with the "bunny ears" hats and cranked out SEVERAL. Hannah made a great horse pattern hat. Molly was the first brave soul to try the tied hat- and it looked so good she did two of them- plus a selection of others (she brought her grandma to help us THANK goodness we really could use the help while we were learning!). Shelbi made a really cute tied hat with purple, teal and green kitties all over it- you couldn't help but smile looking at it. All in all they completed 37 hats! AND enjoyed a fun hot dog roast. We are greatful to several people for helping us make the day possible- Berniece Shirley donated money for lunch, and Shirley and James Farmer donated money for fabric. Thanks so much!! It was so great seeing the kids making a difference a little at a time!!
