Record books may be typed OR handwritten in ink
(use erasable ink pens for less stress!)
and YES, Mom and Dad can play secretary for Jr. 4-H members.

Download record book forms here- use 2008 forms and fill out an objectives page, new things done in my project, and work done in my project for each project area (i.e. swine, sewing, rabbits, photography)

Goes under Citizenship/Community activity:
List the citizenship/community service activities you have been involved in. Include activities that benefit an individual, a non-4-H group or the community. May include activities that exhibit the qualities of a good citizen.

Adopted an Angel from an Angel tree(or your family or church group?)
Collected Box tops for Education for school?
Went caroling at a nursing home (or visiting or gifts, or performing?)
Helped at the 4-H concession stand?
Helped run a booth for Fright Night? Helped your family recycle?
Taken produce from your garden to neighbors?
Collected for a food bank?
Been involved in a fund raiser for someone?

Goes under Leadership/Promotional Leadership
List leadership activities you have been involved in. Leadership is defined as one-on-one assistance, organizing an activity, teaching a workshop, holding an office, serving on a committee, etc.

Helped another member with a project?
Volunteered at a 4-H day (roundup camp)
Set up a display on your project anywhere?
Invited someone to 4-H
Presented a talk somewhere other than at county speech contests on 4-H or your project?

Under non-4-H experiences make sure to list
School: Band, Pep band, Basketball team, School Plays, Essay contests

Community: Scouts, Rainbows/Demolay, Breed associations, other clubs or group activities

Church: memberships/or attending, Sunday school or youth groups, helping with church functions, performing specials


have more questions? http://oklahoma4h.okstate.edu/awards/docs/2008/ReportingProjectWork.doc is a good guide for making decisions on whether it is or is not 4-H work. There is an area for “non-4-H experiences” and if it wasn’t completed specifically as a 4-Her it can be listed there.
